3621 Sheffield Dr., Rocky Mount, NC 27803      (252) 443-5540

Welcome to the Rocky Mount District, "Cradle of North Carolina    Methodism."  The Rocky Mount District is made up of seventy-eight United Methodist churches,  the latest being La Estrella Resplandeciente , a Spanish-language community of faith served by the Reverend Lucho Reinoso. These churches are grouped in forty-eight charges served by fifty-two pastors.

The oldest congregation is Halifax, organized in 1752 as an Anglican Church.  One of our historic congregations where services are held on special occasions, Whitakers, dates from 1740.  This was the site of the first Annual Conference off the Methodist Protestant Church.

Today, the Rocky Mount District is expanding its ministries into a variety of places to a multiplicity of persons. John Wesley (1703-1791), an English clergyman and the founder of Methodism, said, "If your heart is as my heart is, give me your hand." For more than two hundred years, the people called Methodists have labored in this part of the world. The churches of the Rocky Mount District are committed to follow the spirit of Mr. Wesley and to be a place of OPEN HEARTS, OPEN MINDS, AND OPEN DOORS.
